About Delta James
How did you get started?
I asked myself what had happened to the girl whose motto was Fortune Favors the Bold and more importantly, how did I get her back? The answer was simple and terrifying. Say yes! To do that, I needed to abolish fear from my decision-making process and to ask myself what it was that I wanted to do with the second chapter in my life. The answer was to be a novelist… so I sat down and started writing.
What’s the biggest contributor to your success?
That’s the easiest question of them all. I have, bar none, the best readers in the business. The stories they share with me, their support and all they do to assist me is appreciated more than they will ever know! I especially want to call out my “Reader Focus Group”—who have my deepest and most sincere thanks.
How do you get your ideas?
I wish I had some scientific method for doing this. The fact is my characters speak to me—in my dreams, in little whispers in my brain, etc. I merely tell their story.
How do you do what you do?
Simple. I sit my ass in the chair and write. To do that takes a little more doing. I have assembled a great team that allows me to do that. First and foremost is my incredible PA, Renee Brooks, who takes care of all of my marketing. And the second is Chris Jackson who works as my personal assistant and alpha reader (think the Golden Girls meets Thelma and Louise). In addition to Chris and Renee, I also have an outstanding editor, Lori Wray White of Intuitive
Editing and Development Services, and the best cover designer in the business, Dar Albert of Wicked Smart Designs. Trust me when I say without these ladies, I could never do what I do.
What’s next?
Who knows? I keep writing, honing my craft, listening to readers and to the team I’ve gathered around me and wonder the same thing. All I know is that wherever my path may lead, however rocky it might get, I plan to embrace it with every fiber of my being – so stay tuned!
